Shopify Editions ’26: what it means for your store & marketing

Ecommerce marketing news: hands holding tablet showing online store, with Shopify Editions Fall 2026 title overlay.

TL;DR: Following the latest Shopify Editions (Fall ‘26) updates, Shopify now filters bots out of sessions, so your conversion rate will look higher with no change in sales. Shoppers can also buy from your store inside Google AI Mode, Gemini and other AI agents.  With Black Friday and Cyber Monday only weeks away,  a few of these changes will change your reported numbers without any change in how many people actually bought, so make sure you’re aware and take action as soon as you can…

1. Sessions now filter out bots, so your conversion rate will look higher

Shopify has changed how it counts sessions. Analytics now filters out bot traffic, stitches a visitor’s activity into one journey across your site and counts visits in line with cookie consent.

The result is fewer sessions for most stores. Conversion rate is orders divided by sessions, so it rises even if you sell exactly the same amount. Therefore, if you compare this Black Friday to last year’s,  your conversion rate could look like a big win that didn’t happen.

The gap between Shopify and Google Analytics 4 has likely moved too. If your team reconciles the two, or alerts on the difference, expect those thresholds to need resetting.

For your store: there are no changes to your storefront. Your analytics now shows fewer sessions and a higher conversion rate from the day the change arrived, so don’t credit the jump to a recent theme or checkout change.

For your marketing:

  • Find the date the change reached your store and add a manual annotation in Shopify analytics (also new this Edition)
  • Judge peak on revenue, orders, average order value and blended marketing efficiency, not conversion rate alone
  • Restate last year’s conversion rate as a range rather than a single target, and say so in your report

2. Shopify marketing reports now show more accurately which channel drove each sale

Shopify’s unified marketing reports now separate traffic sources and aim to cut the number of sales credited to the wrong channel.

Analytics has also become more flexible:

  • Apps can now send their own events into analytics, such as loyalty points redeemed or marketing emails sent, so you can report on them next to sales
  • You can group and filter reports by category metafields (color, material, pattern) and metaobjects (loyalty status, designer, warranty)
  • Shop Campaigns metrics, including ad spend, sales, ROAS and average customer acquisition cost, are now available in ShopifyQL
  • Apps can write annotations to your reports, so you can see what changed and which app changed it

For your store: you can slice sales by product attributes such as colour or material, and see app activity such as loyalty redemptions next to orders. Merchandising and retention reports are therefore easier to build.

For your marketing: pull October’s channel revenue from the new Shopify report and from each ad platform. Note where they disagree before peak, so you’re not explaining the gap during Cyber Week.

Shoppers can now buy from Shopify stores inside Google Search, including AI Mode, and the Gemini app, with checkout handled by Shopify and orders landing in your admin. Shop Pay checkout also works in other AI agents Shopify names, including Meta’s Muse, Claude Duet, Grok Bot and Instinct.

Shopify says more than 1 billion products in its catalog can now be discovered across AI channels. Whether yours are among them depends on Shopify Catalog:

  • You can now check your store’s eligibility for Shopify Catalog and see what to fix to qualify
  • Your compare-at price is now passed to AI agents, so markdowns show up without extra setup
  • A new knowledge base lets you review and approve the facts agents use about your business, including policies and FAQs

For your store: your product pages, policies and FAQs are now what AI agents read and repeat to shoppers. Check Catalog eligibility, fill gaps in product titles, attributes and category metafields, and review every policy an agent might quote. Our guide to Shopify structured data for AI agents covers the product data side in more detail.

For your marketing: a sale that starts in a conversation with Gemini doesn’t look like a click from a paid search ad. Before AI sales grow, decide how you’ll report them: which sales channel they appear under, and whether they sit in organic, paid or a new ‘AI’ bucket.

4. You can now run ads on more channels from your Shopify admin

Campaign Autopilot now runs AI-powered campaigns on Microsoft Advertising and Snapchat, with X Ads coming soon, and manages SEO tasks in the same place.

Other paid media updates:

  • Shop Campaigns has opened in more than 35 new markets, including the UK, Australia and the EU. You only pay when an ad drives a sale, and Shopify says Shop Campaigns has led to over 18 million sales
  • The ChatGPT Ads app lets you advertise in chats, buy sponsored placements and track results in your admin (see our post on ChatGPT Ads on Shopify)
  • Select businesses can sell on TikTok with Buy Direct ads, with checkout powered by Shopify

For your store: you can run and manage campaigns on more channels without leaving your Shopify admin, and Shop Campaigns puts your products in front of shoppers in the Shop app.

For your marketing: each new channel reports its own results, and a sale credited to Shop Campaigns may be one you’d have made anyway. If you’re a UK brand, Shop Campaigns is worth a small test. Set a fixed budget and success measure up front, and judge it on whether total revenue and blended efficiency moved, not only on the ROAS the channel reports for itself.

5. You can now schedule a whole promotion to start and end automatically

Rollouts now let you bundle theme changes, checkout settings, catalogs and discounts into one scheduled launch, event or experiment. Price changes and product publishing can be scheduled by market and roll back automatically when the promotion ends. You can also run A/B tests on store elements across headless builds, Shopify POS, Google Shopping and the Shop app.

A promotion with an exact start and end time is much easier to read than one switched on by hand at midnight and forgotten for a day. Apps can also query which resources are part of an active rollout through the Admin API, so reporting tools can see when a change went live.

Sidekick can now also propose store improvements it has tested with SimGym, Shopify’s shopper simulation app, and you choose which to apply.

For your store: launches, price changes and discounts can go live and roll back on schedule, across markets and channels, with no manual switch at midnight. You can also test store changes without a separate testing tool.

For your marketing: set up your Black Friday offer as a rollout, annotate the start and end dates, and avoid overlapping tests across peak so you can tell which change moved the numbers.

6. Shopify can now recognize more of your customers online and in store

Several updates now help you identify shoppers earlier, which makes your first-party data more useful:

  • Shop sign-in can now be added to lead capture forms built with Shopify Forms or Klaviyo, so a new subscriber is matched to a verified customer straight away
  • Carts sync across devices and between the Shop app and your online store
  • POS now recognizes more in-store customers through the network of shoppers who have paid at any store using Shopify Payments. Shopify says a known in-store customer has over 60% higher lifetime value than an unknown one
  • You can collect WhatsApp marketing consent at checkout and send automated WhatsApp messages from Shopify Messaging for browse, cart and checkout abandonment

For your store: shoppers pick up where they left off across devices, the Shop app and your physical stores, and your staff can see who they’re serving at the till.

For your marketing: known customers make attribution and lifetime value reporting more accurate, and join up online and in-store behavior. If you already run email and SMS in Klaviyo, agree which tool owns WhatsApp before you switch it on, so customers don’t get the same reminder twice and you don’t count the same recovered sale in two places.

7. Script tags have been switched off for apps, so check your tracking

Apps can no longer create or update script tags and must move to theme app extensions or web pixels. App Store apps must also move to expiring access tokens before January 2027 to stay listed.

If an older tracking, reviews or marketing app relies on script tags and hasn’t been updated, its data could stop flowing without any error you’d notice in the admin.

For your store: apps that haven’t migrated may stop working on your storefront, from review widgets to tracking. Ask each developer whether they’ve moved to theme app extensions or web pixels.

For your marketing: list every app that fires pixels on your store and compare Shopify orders with the conversions each ad platform reports, day by day. A sudden drop on one platform while Shopify orders hold steady is the warning sign.

Your pre-Black Friday marketing measurement checklist

Six checks to run before peak:

  1. Annotate the date Shopify’s session change reached your store
  2. Reset conversion rate targets, and report peak on revenue, orders and blended efficiency
  3. Compare October channel revenue in Shopify’s new marketing report with each ad platform and note the gaps
  4. Check your Shopify Catalog eligibility and the business facts shared with AI agents
  5. Confirm every tracking app has moved off script tags and is still sending data
  6. Set up your main promotion as a rollout, so its start and end are on record

Checkout, fraud and app replacements can wait until January, when a change won’t muddy your peak numbers.

More changes for your store

These updates change how your store now runs day to day:

  • Sidekick now does more. Shopify’s AI assistant can now plan and apply several changes at once, write code and search the web. Shopify says daily Sidekick sessions have grown 4.2x year over year
  • Canvas. A new way to design your whole store in one view, working with Sidekick
  • Shopify Protect. A new app that blocks high-risk orders before payment and writes AI-generated chargeback responses. Shopify says it helps merchants win 60% more “product not received” disputes. Some features are still rolling out
  • Selling abroad. Shopify Managed Markets can now show prices with guaranteed duties and taxes included, plus flat-rate shipping
  • For UK merchants. DHL Express labels in the admin, Royal Mail pickup points, and branded printed receipts that add UK tax summaries
  • Checkout. Custom fields for delivery notes and gift messages, and a tiled payment layout, are rolling out soon. Apple Pay in Chrome, Edge and Firefox via an iPhone QR code is also coming soon

FAQs

What is Shopify Editions Fall ’26?

Shopify Editions is Shopify’s regular round-up of new features. The Fall ’26 Edition, titled “Exponential”, includes more than 150 updates across 11 areas, including AI agents, Sidekick, marketing, payments and developer tools.

Why has my Shopify conversion rate gone up?

Shopify now filters bot traffic out of sessions, joins visits into single journeys and counts visits in line with cookie consent. Fewer sessions with the same number of orders means a higher conversion rate, even if sales haven’t changed.

Can customers buy from my Shopify store inside AI assistants?

Yes, if your products are in Shopify Catalog. Shoppers can check out inside Google Search (including AI Mode) and the Gemini app, and with Shop Pay in agents such as Muse, Claude Duet, Grok Bot and Instinct. Orders appear in your Shopify admin.

Is Shop Campaigns available in the UK?

Yes. Shop Campaigns has expanded to more than 35 new markets, including the UK, Australia and the EU. You pay only when an ad drives a sale. Check the eligibility page for your store’s requirements.

Are all the Fall ’26 features live now?

No. Many are rolling out over the coming months, some are in early access, and some are limited to certain plans or countries. Check each feature’s help page before you plan around it.
